Ven Island geographics The Swedish Island Ven are located
between Denmark and Sweden
in a wide sound called Oresund, 4,3km from the
Swedish main land and 8km from Danish main land. Ven have an length of 4,5km
and wide 2,6km witch make the total square of 7,5km. The island reaches at
highest point 45 meters over the sea level.
The scenery of Ven is distinctive; sometimes lush and exuberant; sometimes barren and a little frightening with cliffs falling steeply into the sea.
Ven Island an tourist attraction Ven is a popular tourist attraction so
visits to the island should be planned well in advance. Special brochures
and info can be obtained from the
Tourist Information centre . Once you have
a map of the island in your hand you can be off in search of Bronze-Age
relics and Viking dwellings.
Many relics have been claimed by the
ravaging seas, but with a little imagination you can feel the wings of
history in the varied and fascinating historical landscape of the island.
Stay over at the holiday village, a traditional pension, hostel, bed &
breakfast or camping site. The arts & crafts shops are well worth
a visit, as are the restaurants to try the local dishes of Venpasta (pasta)
or Venspätta (plaice). The Isle of Ven is reached by boat from
Landskrona, a trip of 30 minutes. In the summer there are ferry services
from Råå and Copenhagen. Island transport is by bus, tractor-drawn hay cart,
taxi and 800 bicycles. And the island is small enough for "shank's pony" to
be a viable alternative. Ven belived have been populated since
4-5000 year ago and rich culture like house ground and graves witness a
population from early stone age. The name Ven are first recorded from 800
century in bronze age Tycho Brahe
(1546-1601),
The pioneering astronomy
science work carried out by Tycho Brahe has been
brought to the fore in present-day space research and to astronomy
scientists.
Things worth seeing include relics from
Tycho Brahe's 21-year stay on the island. In the middle of Ven’s highest
point lie
Uraniborg
Tycho Brahe’s partially underground
observatory. One quarter of the magnificent
renaissance garden of Uraniborg has been recreated. The plants are the same
as those used during the 16th century. One of the small pavilions in the
garden has been reconstructed and the small, adjacent museum displays
confirmation of Tycho Brahe's astonishing versatility. Saint Ibb’s Church. Kings and Princes hunting place. |
